Gingival recession : to graft or to restore?
The presence of gingival recession prior or after orthodontic treatment is a real issue especially when adult patients are growing nowaday. The etiology of gingival recession varies from thin phenotype, occlusal trauma, unfavorable position of the teeth, and uneven worn down of teeth. In the final detailing stage of orthodontic treatment, extrusion with unfavorable torque change, usually palatal or lingual tipping, would occur frequently and might result in gingival recession. Treatment modalities include composite build up during treatment and soft tissue grafting before, during or after orthodontic treatment will be discussed in this presentation.
